MORPHOLOGICAL DERIVATION AS A STAGE OF GRAMMATICAL ASSIMILATION OF JAPANESE ARTONYMS IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

This article presents the results of a study of the morphological derivation of Japanese artonyms in English as a particular case of their grammatical assimilation. The study established that the morphological derivation of nouns boils down to conversion and affixation. Furthermore, the specific usage patterns of the most representative affixes of the analyzed lexical units are described, with an emphasis on their stylistic functions. The study material consists of morphological derivatives of Japanese artonyms selected from the representative COCA and NOW corpora and media discourse texts.
