The article is devoted to the peculiarities of translating elliptical constructions from English into Russian. The problem of translating an ellipsis is associated with their linguotypological specificity and features of languages: the difficulty of searching for equivalents, differences in grammatical systems, the problem of convey-ing expressiveness, etc. The purpose of this work is to conduct a comprehensive analysis of elliptical constructions from the point of view of the problems of translating these units from English into Russian, associated with the typological differences between the two languages. This study is based on the materials of the Russian national corpus, which provides access to a huge amount of texts in the original and their translation into English. For the study, the method of analysis of scientific literature, the method of comparison, the descriptive method, as well as linguistic analysis were used. The article presents the main types of ellipsis in English and its variants of translation into Russian. In modern colloquial English, the ellipsis is found not only in simple syntactic constructions, but also in complex sentences. Such a complex linguistic strategy as an ellipsis involves not a simple omission of sentence elements, but their implicit expression. At the same time, the semantic interpretation of the omitted syntactic components depends entirely on the context and general knowledge of the speaker and the listener. Mostly, difficulties in translating an ellipsis arise from interlingual differences in grammatical structure, insufficient aspects, and cultural differences. The article emphasizes the complexity and versatility of the translation of an ellipsis as a colloquial construction. As the study has shown, an adequate translation of elliptical constructions requires deep knowledge of translation strategies, the ability to take into account the context and stylistic features of the text. Based on the above examples, it can be concluded that the most common strategies for translating an ellipsis such as preservation of the ellipsis, restoration of missing elements, grammatical transformation, lexical replacement.
